Rourke injured in high speed crash!
It is with regret that we bring news of a big
crash whilst Rourke was competing at his first race since flying back to South Africa,
the Hill2Hill marathon, a race between the cities of Pietermaritzburg and Durban.
Whilst riding in the front group with Burry Stander among South Africa's best racers,
Rourke was blinded by the sun coming up over the horizon and hit a tree stump sending
him flying at over 50kph. Landing on his shoulder, Rourke was taken to hospital
with a suspected broken collarbone.
After tests it was confirmed that rather than a break he had torn his ACL ligament
from the joint meaning suregery was the only option.
Rourke has since been operated on and is now recovering well and looking forward
to getting back out on the bike as soon as possible.
We wish Rourke a speedy recovery as he prepares for 2012.
